KROG SHINES AT AMERICA JUNIORS TOURNAMENT

HARARE – Former St George’s College student Stuart Krog made his university arrival in the United States with a memorable affair when he finished fourth at the World Junior Golf Series in Florida which concluded on Thursday. By Farayi Machamire

Krog opened his campaign at the American Junior Tournament which took place at the World Golf Village in St Augustine with four birdies and six bogeys in his first round 74.

He then navigated the 6 895 yards course with five birdies for a scintillating second round 69 before concluding his outing with a birdie and a bogey in his final round 75 for a tournament total of 218.

The Henderson State Uuniversity  freshman finished 16 strokes behind winner Andrew Alligood.

Alligood shot a 6-under-par 66 Wednesday at the Slammer & Squire course to finish the three rounds at 14 under and win the World Junior Golf Series event for the second year in a row.

Elsewhere, St John’s College student Tarisiro Fundira was Zimbabwe’s next placed golfer in position 34 tied after cards of 84, 83 and 82 for a total 249.

Meanwhile, young Danielle Bekker was the sole Zimbabwean girl representative at the tourney alongside 18 other participants from 13 other countries.

The 13-year-old who was among the youngest players in the tournament tied at number 15 following her tournament total of 40-over-par 256.

She signed for cards of 87, 82 and 87 including three birdies and 27 dropped shots.

The series was held at the World Golf Village, Slammer & Squire Course in Saint Augustine and attracted players from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Germany, Zimbabwe, Hungary, United Kingdom, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Iceland, Bahamas, Myanmar, Brazil, Peru, Denmark, Colombia and Nigeria.
