A LOOK AT THE 2016 US OPEN GROUPS

The draw for the 2016 US Open Championship at Oakmont Country Club has thrown up some fascinating pairings, with former winner Rory McIlroy paired alongside Masters Champion Danny Willett for the first two rounds.

The European pair will be joined by World Number Five Rickie Fowler when they get their respective US Open challenges underway from the first tee at 08:24 local time on Thursday.

Defending Champion Jordan Spieth will play alongside fellow Americans Zach Johnson, who won The Open last year at St Andrews, and US Amateur winner Bryson DeChambeau, in what is a traditional US Open pairing, on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile from a South African perspective Louis Oosthuizen will be grouped with Australias World Number One Jason Day, and compatriot Adam Scott, in a threeball that each have a Major Championship to their name.

Thomas Aiken will play alongside 2001 PGA Championship winner David Toms and 1999 WGC Match Match Play Champioship winner Jeff Maggert.

Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Angel Cabrera form a legendary group, with four US Open Championship titles between them.

Jaco Van Zyl will be grouped with 2011 Valero Texas Open winner Brendan Steele and 2015 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open winner Soren Kjeldsen.

Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace will partner Kevin Kisner, while two-time US Open Championship winner Retief Goosen tees it up with 2009 US Open Championship winner Lucas Glover and 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley.
